Sujeet Kumar, New Delhi, 20th September 2022

Shri Sarat Kar was a rare gem in the political firmament of our state, nay of our country, who firmly believed in and practised value-based politics. He was inspired by former Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Shri Kar met Shastri Ji several times while studying Political Science at Allahabad University and in fact Shashtri Ji recommended his name to Biju Babu. Shri Kar worked with several national leaders on behalf of Biju Babu and played a crucial role during the emergency of 1975.

Shri Kar, a multifaceted personality, became one of the well known leaders of the state. His love for public service and poetry went together. As we remember him today on his second Shraddha anniversary I am reminded of his work as an MLA of Mahanga, as the youngest Minister of Odisha, as a Speaker of Odisha Vidhan Sabha, as an eminent writer, as an orator, a devotee of Lord Jagannath and above all a lover of humanity.
