As evening falls, my feet have led me here,
To your town, outside your home.
I stand on the other side of the road,
Watching the light from your window
Form patterns on the darkening ground.
I wish I could just walk across the turf
And lift the latch sitting on your trellis gate.
Sometimes the road is not just a road.
Somehow it feels that we are standing
On the two edges of a hostile world,
The vastness of continents and oceans
Separating us, and the possibilities.
The light from your open window
Shines like a star in the dark sky.
There was a time when I could exactly
Pin point in the vastness of the universe
Where you shone, brighter than all others.
I had imagined the great galaxies
I would have had to cross to reach you:
You were the answer to my wanderings,
The reason and purpose of my restlessness.
Now, I am unable to cover the last few steps.
You are lost among the countless stars,
Beautiful, but cold, and beyond my reach.
